1982 Krug Clos du Mesnil

On Saturday night, 19 September 2020, #michelinstar ✳️ restaurant @berensamkai in Düsseldorf was the epicenter of champagne planet's top 1 by magnitude tasting - 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘝𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘒𝘳𝘶𝘨 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴 𝘥𝘶 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘯𝘪𝘭 𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘶𝘮.⁣

It took Alper @ilovechampagnes 5 long years to hunt and collect all vintages ever produced (1979-2006). All of them coming in Magnums, except for the years when only regular bottles were released (79, 80, 81, 82, 83).⁣

Only 200-300 Magnums were produced each year. Recent releases 500-600.⁣

Clos du Mesnil is a 1.84-hectare vineyard in Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger surrounded by the walls. Its location and microclimate define a distinct terroir for Chardonnay which is renowned in Champagne as much as Montrachet in Burgundy.⁣

Sadly I couldn't join for the tasting on the day, but I would like to join the sharing of memories that CdM definitely imprints in our minds and deep emotions which stay forever.⁣

This precious CdM'82 I shared with my champagne fellows on the eve of COVID-19 crisis. Reading through the notes from the tasting last week I am glad we have a shared impression.⁣

Perfectly aged multilayered wine with a complex tertiary bouquet to die for. Roasted nuts, honey, chalkiness and underlying pronounced acidity. So joyful!⁣

𝘚𝘰𝘭𝘰 in Remi Krug terms, but the power of its voice equals to the orchestra.⁣
